5 October 2021, Shah Alam – Pitch@Selangor 2019 alumni Havva Agrotech Sdn Bhd has been appointed by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) to build the first rooftop urban farming facility in Shah Alam.
The hydroponic and urban farming startup has been given the contract to build the 3,000 square feet facility at Wisma PKPS and is set to commence with construction work immediately.
Selangor State Executive Councillor for Industry and Trade YB Dato’ Teng Chang Khim who witnessed the signing ceremony yesterday said he was proud of the joint venture between PKPS and Havva.
“I am glad that PKPS has taken a very bold step, stepping out from the comfort zone from developing agriculture in the conventional way by having this joint venture effort to explore into a new area of agriculture.
“This is indeed a step towards innovation, in line with the state’s ambition to become a smart state.”
Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Mohamad Khairil Bin Mohamad Razi said, as the main driver for agricultural and food security initiatives in Selangor, PKPS is looking forward to witnessing the first rooftop urban farming facility in Shah Alam.
“This venture will showcase a new and modern urban farming method that will potentially increase productivity whilst maintaining a sustainable cultivation system.
“We are committed to growing a partnership ecosystem for technology collaboration such as this, as we believe that this is key to maximising value and enhancing the economic vitality of smart farming projects, especially in Selangor.”
Sidec CEO Yong Kai Ping congratulated Havva for obtaining the contract from PKPS for the first rooftop urban farming facility in Shah Alam.
“Havva was one of our startups under the Pitch@Selangor programme and will be going to Dubai under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) on October 8 for Expo 2020 Dubai.
“We are proud to see one of our Pitch@Selangor participants reaching such great heights.”
Meanwhile, Havva CEO Philip Loo expressed his gratitude to Sidec for playing a matchmaking role in the joint venture between Havva and PKPS.
“We are extremely excited and thankful to Sidec. This rooftop farm is the last piece of puzzle in our Urban Farming Blue Print.
“We are confident that the success of this project will benefit many agropreneurs in our country soon,” said Loo.
Sidec recently concluded the Fourth Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP) where the top five startups walked away with a collective cash prize worth RM50,000. The startups were eMLab, GFI Fintech, NexMind AI, Boss Boleh and Farmy.
Former SAP participants eventually participate in Pitch@Selangor events. The latest edition will be held on 21st November 2021 at the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2021.
Ten startups selected from SAP 2018-2021 will be part of the startup showcase during the pitching session titled Pitch@Selangor 5: Super Selangor League. The showcase is a platform for startups to enhance exposure for their products and services to the public and potential investors.
