Shah Alam, 24 Feb 2016 – The Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC) held the first of its series of E-Commerce classes last Monday, Feb 23, at the Selangor Digital Creative Centre in Shah Alam.
With a massive turnout of over a hundred attendees, the event saw CEO of Exabytes Group of Companies, Chan Kee Siak; Product Manager of PanPages Edward Poh and Head of Business Development at mobile marketplace Shopee Mobile Jonathan Soh, share valuable industry insights.
Participant response
Participant sentiments were overwhelmingly positive with praises for how the class was run, with a good number of participants indicating that they have taken away something of value from the speakers.
Dr Lee Yee Loon from Chemann Technologies Sdn Bhd noted that the session was productive, and that his interest has been piqued by Shopee, which offers a solution he had been looking for.
Another participant, Puan Fairuz Yunus, a lecturer from the Faculty of Business in Universiti Selangor, had brought along her daughter and students to today’s class.
“I decided to get my students to attend this workshop as I feel that the course contents provide highly relevant exposure to e-Commerce and online business in Malaysia. Furthermore, this gives them a great, hands-on opportunity to network with industry players and merchants, which is a valuable skill to possess,” she added.
At the end of the class, three winners took home vouchers from 11street, while one winner took home a prototype Terminus bag sponsored by BAGMAN.
Multilingual Approach
EC Classes are held at SITEC’s premises, the Selangor Digital Creative Centre in i-City, Shah Alam, and are conducted in three languages: English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia, to cater to the needs of the public.
SITEC’s EC Classes are free and open to anyone from the public, with the next class intake beginning in March.
Second Run
This is not the first time that SITEC has run E-Commerce classes (EC Classes) – since its inception in July 2015, SITEC has run over 20 EC Classes free of charge for the public over 6 months in order to support and boost E-Commerce in the state.
Established in July 2015 by the Selangor State Government under the secretariat of Invest Selangor, the Selangor Information Technology & E-Commerce Council (SITEC) has been given the mandate to spur the development of E-Commerce in Selangor and to position the state as the Southeast Asian trading hub for E-Commerce.
