8th June 2023, Petaling Jaya – Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) is proud to have organised the Selangor Startup Day, a momentous event that celebrated the achievements of nine (9) startups that recently participated in the Pitch Malaysia USA Series programme, a four-in-one programme with an aim that highlights our promising startups, placing them in the spotlight of global investors to scale globally.

Selangor Startup Day also serves as a platform for these nine (9) outstanding startups in a sharing session and to demonstrate their progress they have made since their trip to Silicon Valley and Washington D.C. from 1 May 2023 to 7 May 2023, which includes industrial visits, networking with Malaysian Diaspora community, pitching sessions with US-based and global startups, as well as participation at the 2023 SelectUSA Investment Summit. These startups, representing various sectors such as technology, healthcare, sustainability, and more have captivated the audience with their groundbreaking solutions and compelling entrepreneurial journeys.
This inaugural event held at the Sheraton Hotel PJ today also brought together many startup ecosystem players, investors, and industry experts to witness the transformative power of innovation and entrepreneurship within the startup communities, and highlighted the thriving entrepreneurial landscape in Selangor.
For Sidec, this effort is in line with the State’s goal to make Selangor a regional digital hub for startup companies and the digital industry to boost the country’s digital economic activities. Since its inception in 2018, Sidec has nurtured over 150 startup communities and encouraged their active involvement in various initiatives such as the Pitch Malaysia USA Series and the Selangor Accelerator Program (SAP).
“Sidec recognises the pivotal role that startups play in driving innovation, creating job opportunities, and contributing to economic growth. To support and empower startups, Sidec has implemented a range of programs, resources, and platforms aimed at fostering a conducive ecosystem for their development,” said Yong Kai Ping, CEO of Sidec.
During the event, several significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signings took place. These include the agreements between Selangor Digital School and VirtualTech Frontier, Selangor Digital School and Accendo Technologies, and Wavpay and Revenue Monster.
This event is graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Yang Berhormat Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, Selangor Executive Councillor for Industry and Trade, who will be attending to show his support for the startup community. Joining him will be YBhg. Dato’ Hasan Azhari Haji Idris, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Invest Selangor Berhad; YM Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim, Chief Executive Officer of Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB); and Yong Kai Ping, Chief Executive Officer of Sidec, who bring with them their invaluable expertise and insights into the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
