About Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards 2021

The Sidec Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards is a prestigious award seeks to reward the most successful, creative and innovative homegrown e-commerce merchants. At the same time, merchants who take part can benefit from increased recognition and opportunities to further increase their brand’s presence among the industry.

The Sidec Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards represents Sidec’s plan of action to further uplift and strengthen the country’s e-commerce ecosystem. The almost 3 months competition, which offers RM40,500 worth of cash prizes and other attractive prizes in kind.

The participants will be judge by a panel of respected individuals in the e-commerce industries on five core areas, namely on their products, their platforms, their visibility and promotions, their business potential and their sales and orders volume.

The first Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards started in 2016 where only 60 e-commerce merchants participated while In 2020 the numbers increase to 123 merchants and generating RM36.6 millions in sales. The improvement shows that the e-commerce industry is continue to grow. Sidec is looking to crown the best e-commerce merchants in 2021!

Entry Criteria

1. E-commerce store must sell products to end-users only (B2C) & e-commerce store must have been in operation before October 2021

2. Have achieved at least minimum of RM 25,000 in sales OR minimum of 100 orders in any single month between September 2020 to September 2021

  • Sales and orders across multiple e-commerce platforms can be combined

3. E-commerce store must be registered
under SSM

  • Merchants under services and other sectors category cannot have sales turnover of above RM20 million and must have less than 75 employees
  • Merchants under the manufacturing category cannot have sales turnover of above RM50 million and must have less than 200 employees

4. Certain documentation will be required as proof and should be uploaded inside the online registration

  • Company SSM
  • Supporting documents to prove at least RM25,000 sales OR 100 orders 
  • Any other supporting or relevant documents

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1.1 Who can enter this competition?

Any Malaysian companies that are:

  1. Registered with SSM
  2. Achieved minimum of RM25,000 sales in any single month between September 2020 and September 2021 or,
  3. Achieved minimum of 100 orders in any single month between September 2020 and September 2021.

1.2 Why should I take part in this competition?

The Sidec Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards is the first of its kind in Malaysia. Not only will you be pivotal in making history by being a pioneer of the definitive awards for the booming e-commerce industry in Malaysia, but the prestige that comes with being a shortlisted nominee or winner can be considered a direct reflection of your store’s reliability and reputation, distinguishing you from your competitors as a paragon of excellence in the e-commerce sphere

1.3 What kind of supporting documents does Sidec typically accept?

Any document that can prove your sales, such as sales report from payment gateways, bank account statements, accounting software reports, etc. You are advised to send in as many verification documents as you can in order to facilitate your registration. Email us at ecommerce@sidec.com.my if you’re unsure if a document can be used.

1.4 How will Sidec know that my documents are legitimate?

Sidec will verify documents given with respective platforms when necessary. Please only send to Sidec copies of original documents. If any company is found to have falsified information, they will be automatically disqualified from the competition, even if they have been shortlisted.

1.5 What if I am not registered with SSM but achieved all the other requirements? Am I still eligible?

Unfortunately not. In fact, you need to be SSM registered in order to legally engage in e-commerce.

1.6 What if I am not registered with SSM but have a trade license? Am I still eligible?

No. A trade license is granted by a local authority and only permits you to do your specific business in that particular area only. It is not a substitute for being an SSM registered company in Malaysia.

1.7 Do I have to be Malaysian to take part?

Strictly speaking, no. The company’s directors may comprise foreigners but it must be a Malaysian company.

1.8 What if I am a Malaysian owner but have an e-store that primarily serves an overseas market? Am I still eligible to take part?

Yes you are, as long as it is registered in Malaysia with the SSM.

1.9 What if my company is SSM-registered but my main business is not for the local market at all? Am I still eligible to take part?

Yes you are, as long as your company is registered with the SSM.

1.10 Am I still eligible if I sell products to both end-users AND businesses?

You can sell to anyone as long as you ensure that you also sell to end users.

1.11 I possess my own independent online store. Am I still eligible to take part or do I need to be affiliated with an online marketplace?

Yes! In fact, you are very much encouraged to apply even if you are not on any e-commerce marketplace.

1.12 Do I need to pay anything (registration fee, entry fee, etc.)?

No. Participation is completely free.

JUDGING

2.1 How will we be judged?

Judging will comprise 20% panel judges scores, 30% contest form, 40% online sales contest performance & 10% livestream contest

2.2 Who are the Panel Judges and what might they be looking for?

2.3 What is an online sales contest?

Sidec will create a landing page of all the shortlisted contestants and the page is linked to their own e-commerce store. So once someone purchases from them. They need to submit the proof of sales and orders to the organizer. The contest period is from 3 November 2020 to 16 November 2020.

3.2 Who issues the certificate?

The certificate is issued by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), and is recognized by all of Sidec’s partners who are major e-commerce players in Malaysia.

4.1 When will it be held?

The awards ceremony for the Sidec Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards 2021 will be held on 4th December, 2021. Venue is to be confirmed.

4.2 Will I know in advance if I have been shortlisted as a nominee?

No, the results will be announced on the awards ceremony day only.

4.3 Will the media be attending this ceremony?

Yes, there will be full media coverage for this event.
